Our Journey to Mozambique ... Part 7

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

We woke up at 4:30 am and got busy tearing down camp and loading everything on the SAMIL and the bus. We were on the road by 8:00 am. We we able to make it across the river with no problems. Logan even managed to drive the Land Rover across without using the bridge. (We have to pay to use the bridge.)

We made great time and we arrived at Xicumbani base camp at 4:00 pm. We had spaghetti for dinner.

We woke up at 4:15 am and we were on the road by 6:00 am heading towards the border. We did not have any problems on the road and were at the border by 9:00 am. It only took us 45 minutes to get through the Mozambique border crossing and the South Africa Border crossing. Once we left the South Africa border we were in Kruger National Park. We saw several animals on the way to the Mopani Lodge. We arrived there at 2:00pm. We shopped for at the little gift shop and took a walk around the camp area with the Hixons. On the way to the pool we saw a small snake cross the path in front of us. Then we hiked down to the bottom by the lake and looked for crocs and hippos. That evening we had a great dinner in the restaurant.

It was nice to sleep in a real bed and take a nice long bath. Before breakfast this morning I sat out on the porch and watched all of the birds that were right there on our porch. Some of them would eat out of you hand. They were beautiful.

We left Mopani Lodge around 9:30 am and drove back to Pietersburg to spend the night at the Golden Pillow. Before we left the park we saw a ton of animals. I posted some of them below. I will tell you the pictures really do not show how amazing it really is to be that close to these animals.

This was the teams last night in Africa. We went to the mall and everyone had a chance to pick up a few things to take back home. We had a great dinner at the Golden Pillow's Restaurant.

Our team went home on Friday and we, as well as the Hixon's, stayed on one more week to interview with Christ Baptist Church and Samaria Missions. (You can go to the beginning of August and see our posts from that week.) Again, we thank you for your prayers and support for our mission journey to Africa.
