Mentz Bible Study

We found out when we arrived that there was a taxi wreck this morning and that 3 people have died and several others are in ICU.  This was a private taxi that a group of people hired to take them to work each morning.  The people who used this taxi are from this area of Mentz.  One of the people killed was Johaness and Jereminah's neighbor.  There were many heavy hearts at Bible study tonight.  Mark took a moment to talk about where our hope comes from and spent some time praying for the families of those who were killed.

Before Mark started the lesson he asked them if they could tell him the first five books of the Old Testament and the first five books of the New Testament.  (this was their homework from last week).

The past several weeks Mark has been going through an introduction of the Bible why it is important to study the Bible and tonight he focused on how to study the Bible.

He went over the five ways to know the Bible and we spent time looking up Scripture to support that.

- Meditate ... Psalm 1: 2-3 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.  he is like a tree planted by steams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.  In all that he does, he prospers.

-Memorize ... Psalm 119: 9-11  How can a young man keep his way pure?  By guarding it according to your word.  With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!  I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

-Study ... Acts 17: 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

-Read ... Revelation 1:3  Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

-Hear ... Romans 10: 17  So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

This week they are to memorize 2 Timothy 2:15 ... "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth."

Prayer Request:
-Johaness and Jankie are recovering from the flu
-Meriam's son Tummi is looking for a job
-for the families who lost loved ones in the wreck this morning

We won't meet next week because of the funeral for Johanes and Jereminah's neighbor
